Is it Summer Yet?
Listen, I’m not complaining. I love the cool weather, and if the grand Temperature God sees fit to allow for cool nights every day of the summer, I’m more than happy to comply.1 My poor little veggie garden did take a bit of a hit early in the season, what with sudden dips into the thirties, but everything survived.
Welcome back to my monthly newsletter. It’s been more than a year of this, and I still haven’t quite figured out a solid format, as I’m sure you’ve noticed. Some months it’s all promotion (hey, have you read my new novel yet?), and other months I chat about what’s been going on in my life. For June, I’m leaning toward the latter, because if you’ve been a subscriber for a while, I’m sure you already know about my books, sculptures, Patreon membership (with new updated benefits), yadda yadda, yadda. It’s all still there whenever you’re ready.
Since my last newsletter, the Spring semester ended and my Summer session has begun. I had a couple of weeks off. I read, played video games, watched movies, wrote, and caught up with household chores. It was wonderful.
Otherwise, May was quiet. I had a single signing event at a local comic shop for Free Comic Book Day that went well. This picture may look like the one I posted for Halloween Comic Fest, but if you compare the two, you’ll see the addition of some sculptures.
I’m hoping to have at least one or two more signing events this year and have already signed up for Authorcon 3, happening April 2024.
The biggest piece of news I have this month is that I was recently hired to write YouTube video scripts for RetroDaze, “a website and YouTube channel dedicated to celebrating yesteryear... one memory at a time.” New videos should start coming out within a few weeks, give or take, so now is a wonderful time to head over and subscribe (plus activate the notification bell).
I’m excited about the series and hope you’ll all take the time to watch a few. RetroDaze is affiliated with the website I author articles for, 80sxchange, and in many cases I’ll be crafting related articles to go along with the videos.
Since the last newsletter, I’ve had two articles go live:
The Mailbox: Video Game Mailers
Batty Zabella: A New Horror Point and Click Adventure for Gameboy - Review and Unboxing Video
May has been a slow reading month for me, but I finished Tom Rimer’s Odious Ghouls (which was a lot of fun) and have read about half of Kat Silva’s The Collection, which I’m enjoying immensely. (I’ll have a picture and more to say about Kat’s novella once I finish reading).
On the movie front, I’ve been watching nearly every new movie that comes out, and frankly would need a whole other newsletter to catalog the list and my reviews. Some of my favorites this past month were Evil Dead Rise and Sisu. Dungeons and Dragons was fun too.
I also watch far too many television shows to list, but lately I’ve been enjoying From, Ted Lasso, Will Trent, Animal Control, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, and…well, a lot more. I’m not too much of a snob when it comes to movies and television shows.
That’s about all I have for you this month. Again, I’m leaving all my usual promotion for another day, but if you see fit to seek out any of my work and/or merch, I am eternally grateful.
Breathe deep of the night.
Two days after first typing this, and we’ve officially hit the low 90s here in PA. Oops.
